I know most of the guys that I know hate it, because lip gloss tends to be sticky. You're better off with a tinted lip chap, like the kind that Burt's Bees sells. Your lips will be smooth, not sticky. As for color, just get something that complements your skin tone. Your man will appreciate it if you get rid of all the lip gloss.
